【파이낸셜뉴스 뉴욕=이병철 특파원】 도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 이르면 이번 주말 이란과의 종전 합의에 서명할 수 있다고 밝혔다. 실제 합의가 성사될 경우 3개월 넘게 이어진 중동 전쟁의 종식을 의미하는 동시에 글로벌 에너지 공급망의 핵심 통로인 호르무즈 해협이 다시 열리게 된다.

트럼프 대통령은 11일(현지시간) 백악관에서 기자들과 만나 "우리는 방금 이란과의 전쟁에 대한 훌륭한 합의를 이뤄냈다"며 "서명이 이뤄지는 즉시 호르무즈 해협은 공식적으로 개방될 것"이라고 말했다. 그는 "그 시점은 매우 빠를 수 있으며 유럽 시간 기준으로 이번 주말이 될 수도 있다"고 덧붙였다.

트럼프 대통령은 미국 측 서명 주체로 J.D. 밴스 부통령을 거론하며 협상 타결이 임박했음을 시사했다.

이번 발언은 트럼프 대통령이 당초 검토했던 대이란 추가 군사 공격 계획을 철회한 직후 나왔다. 그는 협상 진전을 이유로 군사 옵션을 보류했다고 설명했다.

이란 반관영 파르스 통신은 테헤란이 이번 합의를 승인할 가능성이 높다고 보도했다. 다만 이란 정부는 아직 공식 입장을 밝히지 않고 있다.
